Belgreen, Russellville, Vina cross country teams compete in Chickasaw Trails Invitational

Three varsity cross country programs from Franklin County—Belgreen, Russellville and Vina high schools—participated in the Chickasaw Trails Invitational in Moulton on Saturday, September 12. The three local schools were among 60 that competed in the cross country event.

Belgreen and Vina runners raced in the Small Schools 5k run.

BHS had one student-athlete compete at the Invitational, eighth-grader Elizabeth Motes, who ran in the girls’ 5k. Motes placed 80th out of 199 with a time of 25:44.45.

Vina had three girls—Lindie Easterling, Kinsley Newton and Samantha Elders—race in the Small Schools 5k. Easterling, a freshman, had the Lady Red Devils’ top finish, coming in 76th place with a time of 25:34.89. Newton and Elders placed 154th and 165th, respectively. Newton, an eighth-grader, completed the 5k in 31:40.14. Elders, a junior, finished her race with a time of 32:53.96.

Russellville had both its boys’ and girls’ teams participate Saturday, running in the Large Schools 5k. As a team, Russellville’s boys came in 26th out of 39 teams with an average time of 18:46; RHS’ girls placed 13th out of 14 teams with an average time of 30:31.

Individually, junior Pascual Felipe had the best finish for Russellville, placing 99th in the boys’ 5k with a time of 17:19.72. Junior Heidy Jacobo had the top finish for the Lady Golden Tigers with a time of 23:05.75, good for 148th.
