Varsity volleyball roundup: September 7-12, 2026
Below is a breakdown of all the local varsity volleyball action during the first week and a half of the season, from September 7 through September 12:
Belgreen traveled to face Vina High School on Tuesday, September 8. The Lady Bulldogs took the match in three sets.
BHS hosted its Bulldog Bash on Saturday, September 12. The Lady Bulldogs lost its three contests to Colbert Heights, Marion County and Brooks by scores of 2-0, 2-1 and 2-0, respectively.
The varsity Bash was won by Covenant Christian.
For the week, Lilliana Willingham led BHS in attack with 19 kills. Randi Terry and Caleigh Lawson also had 16 kills each.
Belgreen is scheduled to travel to Waterloo for an area game on Monday, September 14.
Phil Campbell opened its week on Tuesday with a tri-match against Winston County and East Lawrence. The Lady Bobcats knocked off Winston County 3-1 to secure an area victory before falling to ELHS 2-0.
PCHS resumed play on Thursday, playing rival Red Bay on the road. The Lady Bobcats lost that match in a five-set thriller, 3-2 (11-25, 25-21, 18-25, 27-25, 2-15).
The Lady Bobcats ended their week at Belgreen’s Bulldog Bash, winning two of their three matches. Sandwiched in between a 2-0 win over Cherokee and a 2-1 triumph over Red Bay, PCHS fell 2-0 to eventual Bash champion Covenant Christian.
Phil Campbell is set to face Phillips in its next match on Tuesday, September 15.
Red Bay had a rivalry week this past week. The Lady Tigers first played Mississippi rival Belmont on Tuesday, but were swept by the hosting Lady Cardinals 3-0 (7-25, 21-25, 21-25). RBHS followed up that defeat with a win over county rival Phil Campbell 3-2 (25-11, 21-25, 25-18, 25-27, 15-2).
RBHS ended its week at the Belgreen Bulldog Bash, going 1-2 for the tournament. In between a 2-0 loss to eventual Bash champion Covenant Christian and a 2-1 defeat to Phil Campbell, the Lady Tigers swept Cherokee 2-0.
Red Bay’s next scheduled contest is an area game against Belgreen on Tuesday, September 15.
Russellville opened its week with an area game against Florence. The Lady Golden Tigers lost that match in five sets (24-26, 25-22, 25-22, 26-28, 13-15).
RHS wrapped its week with four more matches on Saturday, losing all four. The Lady Golden Tigers fell to Hartselle 2-0, Fyffe 2-1, Alexandria 2-1, and Priceville 2-1.
The Lady Golden TIgers will look to rebound in a tri-match against West Morgan and Hamilton on Monday, September 14.
Tharptown played two matches this past week. On Thursday, September 10, the Lady Wildcats played Hatton and Wilson, losing both games 2-0.
THS returns to action on Tuesday with home contests against Sheffield and Cherokee.
Vina played just one match against Belgreen on Tuesday, September 8. The Lady Red Devils dropped the match in three sets.
