County outdoor track & field teams meet at RVL Invitational
With home (track &) field advantage, the Russellville High School outdoor track & field teams took first place at its annual RVL Invitational meet on Monday, April 6.
Russellville’s girls’ team stood atop the 15-team standings with 102 points while the RHS boys finished first among 13 teams with 152 points.
Three other Franklin County teams—Belgreen, Phil Campbell, and Tharptown—also competed at the event.
Russellville stood atop the standings at the end of the meet due in large part to 22 top three event final finishes, including 10 gold medal finishes, between the boys and girls teams.
The Golden Tigers’ podium-toppers included the likes of sophomore Darron Jones, who took home three gold medals in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles (15.8), 200m dash (22.68), and 100m dash (10.95); Jasen Noel, who finished first in the boys’ long jump (20-10) and triple jump (40-6) events; and sophomore Angeleah Smith, who grabbed gold in the girls’ high jump with a mark of 4-10.
Additionally, Dalila Vidal took first in the girls’ discus throw with a distance of 99-5, Hunter Kastburg placed first in the boys’ pole vault (8-0), and senior Elijah Dunstan came in first place in the boys’ javelin throw with a distance of 139-5.
Rounding out the gold medal finishes for RHS was the boys’ 4x100m relay team which finished its race with a time of 43.88.
Other notable top finishes for the Golden Tigers include senior Connor Devaney’s silver medals in the boys’ 100m dash (10.99) and 200m dash (22.94), Keira Cruse’s two silvers in the girls’ long jump (16-9) and triple jump (31-7), and Charley Johnson’s second place distance of 32-8 in the girls’ shot put event. Senior Hannah Waldrep claimed second in the girls’ 400m dash, Daimar Valdez came in second in the girls’ 300m hurdles, and Sir Williams secured silver in the boys’ high jump event. Gavin McDaniel and Sam Wilson also had second place finishes in the boys’ triple jump and boys’ shot put, respectively.

Belgreen also competed at the RVL Invitational, finishing 10th out of 15 teams in the girls' standings and 13th in the boys' standings.
On the girls side, Belgreen’s top finish came from Briseyda Luna who finished second in the 1600m run with a time of 6:37.23. The Lady Bulldogs also saw a fourth place finish from Tanisha Clay in the 100m hurdles and a sixth place finish from Kenzly Abbott in the discus throw.
BHS’ best finish on the boys side was Lucas Chambless’ eighth place mark in the long jump.

Phil Campbell, which finished 11th in the boys' standings and 14th in the girls' standings, had six top 10 placements between its two teams.
The best of PCHS’ finishes was in the boys' 4x400m relay, which saw the Bobcats place fourth with a time of 4:32.17. Phil Campbell’s other top five placer was Aspen Misner, who came in fifth in the girls' javelin throw with a distance of 87-0.

Rounding out the local county teams competing at the RVL Invitational was Tharptown, which had seven top 10 finishes between its boys and girls teams. Tharptown’s boys finished 12th in the standings and its girls finished in 13th.
Tops among THS was Maddaline Amaro, who came in fourth place in the girls' 400m dash with a time of 1:10.83. Zach Riley also had an eighth place time in the boys' 1600m run.
