Tharptown outdoor track & field team competes at Deshler meet
The Tharptown High School varsity boys’ and girls’ outdoor track & field teams had a solid showing at a Deshler High School-hosted meet in Tuscumbia on Friday, April 10. As a team, the THS boys finished ninth with eight points and the girls came in sixth with 15 points.
Tharptown student-athletes had eight top-10 finals finishes at the meet, including three top-five finishes.
Senior Laikyn Gardner placed fourth in the girls’ shot put with a distance of 25-4, senior Daniel Jimenez took fourth in the boys’ 3200-meter run with a time of 13:33.23 and sophomore Carly Cason came in fifth in the girls’ 200m dash with a time of 30.63. Gardner also added a seventh-place mark in the discus throw with a distance of 64-10.
The Wildcat boys’ 4×100m relay team had a sixth-place time at 49.96. Other top-10 finishes included Cason’s seventh-place time in the 100m dash (14.23) and Nathalia Abraca’s seventh-place performance in the girls’ javelin (52-11).
