Golden Tigers participate in Sparkman Senator Classic

The Russellville High School varsity boys’ and girls’ outdoor track & field teams competed at the Sparkman Senator Classic, hosted by Sparkman High School in Harvest, on Saturday, April 11.

The RHS boys’ team, with 19 points, finished 12th in the 18-team standings while the Lady Golden Tigers placed 21st with one team point.

Competing amongst many Class 6A and Class 7A programs, Russellville had several top-10 finishes on both the boys’ and girls’ sides, but the best of these was junior Jasen Noel’s silver medal-claiming mark of 44-2.5 in the boys’ triple jump final. Close behind him in the event was RHS senior Gavin McDaniel, who came in fourth place with a distance measuring 40-8.5.

On the girls’ side, Russellville’s best individual placement came from sophomore Angeleah Smith who placed eighth in the high jump at 4-8.

All together, Russellville had 13 individuals or relay teams finish in the top 10 in final heats. All of the Golden Tigers’ results from the Sparkman Senator Classic can be seen HERE.
