Russellville defeats Fairview 41-14

With the Region 8 championship on the line, the Fairview Aggies fell early to the Russellville Golden Tigers. 

The Golden Tigers kept the game close in the first quarter, but then pulled away by halftime to win the game 41-14.

The Aggies scored first with a 3-yard touchdown run by Aggies quarterback Barett York and the extra point made it 7-0 with 3 minutes remaining in the first quarter. 

The Golden Tiger caught up the next drive with a Conner Warhurst 65-yard touchdown run and the extra point made it 7-7. 

The Aggies responded with a 35-yard touchdown pass and an extra point to make it 14-7. 

After an Aggies turnover, Harrison Burch found Randall Johnson for a 68-yard touchdown pass and the extra point tied it 14-14 with 9 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. 

Harrison Burch then found TJ King on their next drive for a 58-yard touchdown pass with the extra point made it 21-14 with 4 minutes remaining in the half. 

Taylor Crumpton recovered a kick off return fumble that allowed Warhurst to add a 7-yard touchdown run to his total to make the score 28-14. 

Warhurst then punched in his 3rd touchdown of the night after a bad snap on a punt by the Aggies to make the score 34-14. 

After the half, the Golden Tigers held the Aggies and added one more touchdown in the middle of the fourth quarter to make it 41-14. 

“We played extremely well, extremely physical. We dominated Fairview on all three phases,” Head Coach John Ritter said. 

Offensively for the night starting QB, Burch was 8 of 11 passes for 183 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Warhurst had 22 carries for 193 yard 3 touchdowns. Cam Phinzee had 10 carries for 77 yards and a touchdown. 

TJ King had 4 catches for 91-yards and one touchdown and Randall Johnson had 2 catches for 77-yards and a touchdown. 

Defensively, JT Hill 12 tackles.

This Friday night, the Golden Tigers take on an old rival, the Athens Golden Eagles. 

“This is a game for all the old school Russellville fans,’ Ritter said. 

The Golden Eagles are 4-5 on their season in 6A play. 

This Friday is also senior night where the program will honor its seniors. 

Before the game, Russellville will also honor former Colbert County High School Head Football Coach Don Creasy before the game. Creasy tragically passed away in a car accident. Creasy was a two time state champion coach at Colbert County and a 2003 Alabama High School Hall of Fame.

“This is a great opportunity not only to celebrate our seniors, but also tp honoring the Creasy family with a plaque for all that Don Creasy has done in his life,” Ritter said.
